Injury feedback needed

What’s up fellas I had a knot in one of my traps like I slept on it funny and I expected it to go away in one day but it’s been 17 days and I’m still having to eat Tylenol all day long if feels like a section of my spine is almost numb but painful, anyone experience this injury? I’ve been dealing with injuries from every angle since December 15, sciatic nerve issues, 2 weeks of that, then the very next week, bent over rows jacked up my lower spine, that kept me out for another week, now the neck. Oh and the way it all

started was an intercostal strain from jiu jitsu. I’m 39. Should I dial it down with the intensity or is all this time off sufficiently resting the rest of my body? Feedback?

Thanks for sharing @therocksays and I am sry that you are dealing with these issues. With your lifestyle and your determination to train with such intensity I wouldn't mess around if I was in your position. If you have health insurance get your arse into a medical professional. Hopefully it is nothing big.

Don't underestimate the value of physical therapy if that is what is prescribed. A good tech can help you out tremendously. Not only in the area of weight training but in the area of your other passion of BJJ. I suffer from cervical stenosis and I have worked with movement coaches who seconded as PT tech's. The help I received was worth its weight in gold.

I have a pt on speed dial, he’s not sure about this one, so I keep saying I’m gonna go tomorrow if it’s not better, each day I find another excuse not to go. Thanks for the feedback. It’s been frustrating and I do think this will pass without any major interventions, but it doesn’t change that I’m approaching a month without training like I normally do. I wasn’t able to at first, but now I probably can, but am afraid to further injur the neck. Patience I guess is being taught at the moment. But training patience doesn’t make you more physically intimidating

I had almost the same thing happen back last summer from falling asleep on the damn couch believe it or not.  I had a deep tissue massage and my first trip to the chiropractor I'm 39 also lol . After that I just had to dial it down and take some time off from heavy lifting brother.

Saw the ortho today, it’s nerve issue, there’s about 30% atrophy in the left arm. Very upsetting. 6 weeks no upper body exercise or lifting. Gonna be a struggle.

Rock, I am sorry I read to this to late:  Lumps in the trap are a result of muscle fibers becoming lumpy. In time there is a lack of oxygen and nutrition which forms a muscle knot.   These happen more than people think.  Occasionally, muscle knots go away, but in most cases, proper steps should be adopted in order to loosen the tense muscle.  IF this is not corrected it can lead to nerve damage. If corrected the nerve will grow back – about 1mm a day in small nerves and 5mm a day in large nerves.  I am glad you got yourself to a doctor.  Long term nerve damage can be permanent. Slow down and train smart.  Not that you are not, but you are no Spring Chicken for the arduous training you are putting yourself through.

I’ve had this happen to me a number of times. Usually after super heavy shrugs.

I take it light in that area and work around it but also get my wife to do some deep tissue work on it. After a couple messages it goes away for me.

It’s been pretty long time since I’ve had that happen. Probably around a year ago now.

Hope u get it loosened up.

Face pulls can do it for me! Right under the shoulder blade near the spine. I won't even know it happened until about 30 minutes later and the knot is hard as granite.

thanka brother. Been listening to jocko Willink, good! It helps. Calum too. @Aton now that you mention it, I was doing shrugs and would occasionally feel a tensing sensation in my pec. That’s exactly what happened. He said the atrophy shows it’s been longer than the 3 weeks I’ve been resting. @Aristo I hope I caught it in time. Thanks for the positive feedback men.
