Cortisol - really counteract?

Recommended Posts

Heman713

So for a natural bodybuilder does cortisol kick in 45 to an HR? If so what is the point to continue if it counteracts on muscle building? Even if your on test only ,how does it counteract,if at all? How are you doing your workouts more than an HR because most I see are 1hr 30 minutes....? Or is cortisol all bullshit?

Cortisol can be managed and minimized. But to ur point of age I do think u need to be smart and tailor ur training as we all get older. Not radically just minor adjustments.
more so if ur completely natural and not running any extra hormones, supplements or gh.

i have a friend that is still competing as an ifbb pro at age 47. He looks amazing but even he has changed the way he trains vs when he was 18-20 years old.

Aton is on the money with his advise.

Cortisol is something to consider as we get older.  Yet, some are more prone to higher levels of Cortisol and stressful situations can surely elevate cortisol levels.  Cortisol can inhibit protein synthesis, which basically means it an inhibit the body to create muscle.  Higher cortisol levels become more pronounce as we age.   However, the levels tend to surge if rest periods are short and work levels are high.  The older we get the more rest we need.  Helping keep cortisol levels in check using  a 2 on 1 off has helped me a great deal.   I am 55 and have notice more muscle increase when I use this protocol.  I remember that Flex Wheeler had a specific routine.  One week on and one week off.   Sleep is imperative as well.  I take two Gaba tabs at night and it helps with my sleep.

Finally a good solid workout should not exceed and hour.   Food timing after workout also helps a great deal.

Hope this helped,

Aristo

One thing I have noticed in my 40s is that I react much better to less training sessions. 4 typically, 5 at most.

Train hard but smart and don't spend hours at the gym specially as we get older.

My longer workouts are usually legs but that is also because I take longer rest on leg day.

What would be considered cortisol on a blood test? Would that be eosinophils?

@bearsfanI don't believe their is a correlation between eosinophils and higher cortisol levels.   Now, studies have shown that extreme stress can cause eosinophils counts to get higher in normal people who are infection free or cancer free.   Yet high cortisol is not a true indicator of eosinophil.  But, usually high eosinophils numbers are a true indication of an infection or possibly cancer.

If anyone has more info on this I would love to hear it.  I called my brother-in-law who is an ortho and asked this  specific question.  What I understood is what I covered in my synopsis (above) of what I got from his explanation.

😉

Even though I see many doctors I learn the most from nurses and specialists.  Most time it's nurses . I do find with lower eosinophils I am more achy and eosinophilic drop when your sick or hurt .

I've been racking my brain for weeks trying to figure out the correlation between low eosinophils , hypokalemia and low magnesium

Has any of the specialist been able to give you a detail answer?

No but I have a theory which I'm kinda half assed testing out .

So I have blood tests when I go to the hospital so I have like a fuckin ton this year right.  Every time something happens and I'm in bad shape ( cant stand , cant move arms , ribs moving , unbearable pain ) my potatssium and magnesium are low along with eosinophilic . Every single time so I'm thinking eosinophilic are linked to cortisol which is linked to potassium and magnesium and that's why it's in every sports drink to prevent your muscles from shrinking then being saturated which may cause cortisol to go up.

People make way too much about cortisol. It’s just not as important as many think it is. Just my $0.02.
